Whatever goals you set out to accomplish, our MatSE family is here to guide and assist you along the way. One very importent way we support our students financially is that each year we award more than $253,000 in scholarships to students just like you in our department.
You will have access to advising at the Ryan Family Student Center and with MatSE academic advisor Meg Abplanalp. If you are a Schreyer scholar, you will be advised by Amy Robinson, Ph.D., associate head for undergraduate studies.
We know that there is some stress with going to college and meeting new people. From your first day as a new student, you will have many opportunities to meet likeminded people. The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS)—which MatSE is a part of—you may participate in TEEMS: Total Engagement with EMS which is an opportunity for you to make lasting connections and become familiar with all the resources available to you.
There are many other ways to get involved throughout your time at Penn State. We have MatSE related students organizations that we are encourage you to check out such as Material Advantage, Women in Material Science, Women in 3D Printing, as well as chapter of national associations and societies.
You will also have opportunities to do internships, study abroad, participate in diversity programs, and there is even Special Living Options to live and learn with classmates who share similar your similar interests.
Take some time and explore all that MatSE and EMS has to offer, and if you have any questions along the way, we are here for you.
