MatSE is committed to building an inclusive culture that welcomes people from all backgrounds. As a top-ranked program, the department thrives on partnerships between faculty, staff, students, and researchers to promote a well-rounded academic experience and generate innovative research opportunities. Our goal is to nurture a diverse community, to encourage rich collaboration, and to achieve academic success and research excellence.
With a commitment to increasing diversity within the department, and with a focus on equity and inclusion, we turn to our alumni and friends to help make this vision a reality. In celebration of the department’s 115th anniversary, we invite you to help us in establishing a new Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) Fund. This fund will financially support our goal to create a more inclusive environment for students, faculty, staff, and researchers of all backgrounds. Once created, this endowment will ensure that our commitment to inclusivity will last in perpetuity.
We believe it is imperative to offer an educational experience that is both accessible and world-class to every one of our students. Today, we are focused on creating equity to eliminate opportunity gaps and bringing innovative solutions to some of the world's most challenging social issues. This DEIB fund will help meet the changing needs of students from underrepresented populations in MatSE, as well as those of faculty and staff. A fund like this might, for example, support engagement opportunities, social events, or visits from guest speakers.
Your contribution to this new DEIB Fund will support our continuing efforts of pursuing sustained equity and belonging for all. In the coming weeks, you will be receiving more information by email on how you can help and be a part of this exciting initiative.
MatSE is dedicated to building an inclusive community for all our students, so they will be able grow to their fullest potential. With your help, we are making an impact around the world and building well-rounded future leaders.
