Penn State’s 25th annual Environmental Chemistry and Microbiology Student Symposium (ECMSS) at the University Park campus is April 14 and 15. ECMSS is a student-run symposium providing an informal platform for graduate and undergraduate researchers working in environmentally relevant fields across campus to come together. Students from a variety of disciplines are invited to present posters or oral presentations in the following areas: environmental science and engineering; chemistry, crop, and soil sciences; agricultural and biological engineering; geosciences; meteorology; microbiology; biology; ecology; plant pathology and science, forensic science; environmental law and policy; or other environmentally related fields. In addition to student presentations, there will be four fantastic keynote addresses from eminent scientists (2023 ECMSS | Student Association of Environmental Science and Engineering (psu.edu)):
Dr. Ryan Sullivan, Professor of Chemistry and Mechanical Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University
Dr. Sullivan is the 2023 Kappe Lecturer. The Kappe lecture series is an endowed seminar held annually by the Department of Environmental Engineering and the Department of Chemistry.
Dr. Austin Gray, Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences, Virginia Tech
Dr. Kimberley Thomas, Assistant Professor of Geography and Urban Studies, Temple University
Dr. Eve-Lyn Hinckley, Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies, University of Colorado, Boulder
Please register for the free event and submit your poster or oral presentation abstracts at 2023 ECMSS | Student Association of Environmental Science and Engineering (psu.edu). Monetary prizes will be given to the top-rated presentations and posters in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Free food and drink will be provided to all attendants.
